A Democrat running for local office in Texas, Taral Patel, was arrested and charged with a felony for allegedly creating fake racist attacks against himself on social media.
Patel claimed his Republican opponents’ supporters made prejudiced statements, which were later traced back to him.
“Republican opponents supporters’ decide[d] to hurl #racist, #anti-immigrant, #Hinduphobic, or otherwise disgusting insults,” Patel wrote.
“We don’t need more sand negroid subhumans who smell like curry and filth in our country,” one comment read.
“If I see you wearing that dot on your head, I’ll wipe it off myself,” another read.
The investigation revealed that the racist messages were fabricated by Patel, leading to his arrest.
Patel’s campaign had received endorsements from prominent Democrats and falsely claimed to have served in the White House.
The Republican Commissioner he was running against suspected foul play and hired a private investigator, leading to the discovery of Patel’s deception.
Patel faces charges of online impersonation and misrepresentation of identity.
