President Joe Biden is set to announce executive action granting deportation protection and work authorization to select undocumented spouses of US citizens who have lived in the country for 10 years.
The policy utilizes “parole in place” to offer relief and align with Democratic and immigration advocates’ goals.
This initiative, reminiscent of DACA in scope, aims to aid hundreds of thousands of affected individuals, particularly Latinos.
Additionally, Biden plans to introduce a pathway to work visas for DACA recipients and address immigration system reforms in the coming weeks.
“In the weeks ahead – and I mean the weeks ahead – I will speak to how we can make our immigration system more fair and more just,” Biden said.
The plan, supported in polling and key battleground states, reflects efforts to provide relief and address immigration issues.
“Everything is on the margins, right?” Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly said. “My sense is it should help.”
