NBC’s Erin McLaughlin drew a connection between the recent Supreme Court decision overturning the ban on bump stocks and the mass shootings that occurred over the weekend, despite bump stocks not being involved in any of the incidents she referenced.
During The Today Show broadcast, McLaughlin presented the shootings that took place in Michigan, Texas, and Massachusetts as if they were directly related to the court ruling on bump stocks.
“A mass shooting at a splash pad in Michigan, another at a Juneteenth celebration in Texas, and yet another at a gathering in Massachusetts — all just days after Friday’s Supreme Court ruling that rejects a ban on bump stocks,” McLaughlin said.
The report highlighted the tragic events and the ongoing investigations into the motives behind the shootings, with McLaughlin implying a correlation between the court decision and the shootings.
“This morning, friends and families across the country are grieving after multiple mass shootings this weekend,” the report read.
