Tyler Cherry, a former Interior Department communications director, has been hired as an associate communications director at the Biden White House.

Despite past controversy over social media posts criticizing law enforcement, Republicans, and voicing support for the anti-Israel movement, Cherry’s new role in the White House has stirred discussion.

His history includes condemning the police system, advocating for ICE’s abolition, expressing pro-Palestine sentiments during the Gaza War, and critiquing Republicans for what he viewed as focusing on “white grievance politics.”

“Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases,” Cherry wrote in 2015.

“Apt (sic.) time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs,” he later said.

“Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine — no shame and [expletive] your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine,” Cherry wrote in 2014.

“The Tea Party was never about the debt/deficit but about racism and white grievance politics,” Cherry wrote in 2017.

White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates expressed pride in having Cherry on the team.
