European officials have expressed concerns over President Joe Biden’s age and performance following a presidential debate where he appeared confused and struggled with hoarse and mumbled speech.
Officials from countries like Germany, Slovenia, and Poland voiced worries about Biden’s capability for a second term, with some suggesting a need for changes in leadership.
“This night will not be forgotten,” Christian Democratic Union of Germany member Norbert Rottgen wrote on X. “The Democrats must now change course. And Germany must prepare itself as quickly as possible for a future that is uncertain in terms of security policy. If we do not take responsibility for Europe now, no one will.”
“I was afraid of this,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said. “It was to be expected that in a direct confrontation, in a debate, it would not be easy for the president.”
Reports indicate instances of Biden’s struggles with his talking points and fluctuations in his performance.
These concerns add to existing doubts about his mental fitness, as shown in a March poll indicating unease about his ability to serve another presidential term.
