President Joe Biden faced scrutiny during a tense interview with NBC News host Lester Holt where he struggled to answer questions and denied using inflammatory language against former President Donald Trump, despite evidence to the contrary.

Biden refused to commit to a debate with Trump before September and grew defensive when questioned about his cognitive abilities, redirecting the focus to Trump’s false claims.

“If we were in high school, I’d take him [Trump] behind the gym and beat the hell out of him,’” Biden said in 2018.

“Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” Biden said in 2022.

“That’s Hitler’s language. That’s not America’s,” he said in 2024.

“Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy. He’s literally a threat to everything America stands for,” he later said.

“It’s time to put Trump in a bullseye,” Biden said on July 8, 2024.

“I’m on the horse! Where have you been?” Biden said when questioned on whether he was ready to “get back on the horse.”

“What I’m doing is going out and demonstrating to the American people that I have command of all my faculties, that I don’t need notes, I don’t need teleprom (sic)—,” he said.

The interview shed light on Biden’s challenges in addressing criticisms and maintaining coherence in his responses.
