Dolton, Illinois, Mayor Tiffany Henyard is currently involved in an eviction lawsuit for $3,350 in unpaid rent, with an ultimatum to either pay the amount or vacate her residence. The village is over $3.5 million in debt, and an investigation led by former Mayor Lori Lightfoot has revealed significant financial discrepancies.
This includes $40,000 in Amazon purchases and a negative $3.65 million in the village’s General Fund as of May 2024.
“We’ve worked very, very diligently, very hard—under difficult circumstances—to get as much information as we could to share with you,” Lightfoot said.
Henyard’s recent appointments of new officials without board approval have also led to a Cook County judge temporarily barring them from Village Hall due to violations of municipal codes.
“If you hear this is fake news, it’s not. It’s real,” Lightfoot said.
“This is real. Receipts for credit card purchases are rarely provided,” Lightfoot added.
Further analysis has uncovered excessive overtime payments for police officers, raising concerns about financial oversight and management in the village.
