Following the Nov. 5 election, Donald Trump has become a prominent figure again, as athletes such as Brock Bowers, Nick Bosa, Calvin Ridley, and Jon Jones have been celebrating his win by performing a dance called “The Trump.”
This trend has sparked reactions, especially in the NFL, where Bosa faced fines for showing support for Trump.
Despite some pushback, including the Raiders limiting Bowers’ media access after his comments about the dance, the phenomenon reflects a shift in how athletes express their political affiliations.
“I’ve seen everyone do it. I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC so I saw it, and thought it was cool,” Bowers said about the dance when asked.
“What’s particularly weird about this is that, per Deen, the Raiders cut off Bowers’ locker room availability after this question. Uh, why would they do that? Were they afraid about any follow-ups to Bowers’ initial explanation? That’s probably not the ideal way to cut off any potential controversy.”
