President Joe Biden is contemplating issuing preemptive pardons for various individuals, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, and members of the January 6 Committee, amid worries about possible legal investigations by the Trump-led Department of Justice.
Biden’s aides are alarmed following the nomination of Kash Patel to head the FBI, which has heightened fears among current and former officials.
Schiff, who has faced criticism for his claims about Russian collusion, has stated he does not want a pardon, urging Biden against it.
Schiff stated, “I would urge the president not to do that. I think it would seem defensive and unnecessary,” he told Politico.
Discussions are currently being led by White House counsel Ed Siskel and Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, with Biden not yet fully involved.
