Nick Mavar, a former deckhand on the F/V Northwestern from “Deadliest Catch,” has passed away following a medical emergency in Naknek, Alaska.

Known for his role on the show and the subsequent health struggles documented on screen, Mavar filed a lawsuit against the ship’s captain, Sig Hansen, and his wife due to delays in medical treatment after his appendix ruptured in 2020.

“The Bristol Bay police department received a call for a medical emergency at a boatyard in Naknek. Medics responded and transported Nick Mavar Jr. to Camai medical center where they attempted life-saving measures,” the Bristol Bay Police Department stated. “Mr. Mavar was later pronounced deceased and next of kin has been notified.”

His death adds to the losses in the “Deadliest Catch” community, including co-stars Mahlon Reyes and Nick McGlashan.

Mavar’s impact extended beyond the show as he supported his nephew, Jake Anderson, in his personal journey, reflecting the show’s familial spirit.
