During a visit to Detroit, former President Donald Trump launched a new black voter coalition as part of his 2024 campaign efforts.
At a church event, Trump was praised by the pastor for visiting predominantly black communities, unlike President Obama or Joe Biden.
“President Trump, I’m so humbled that you would be here. President Obama never came to the hood, so to speak, right? President Joe Biden, he went to the big NAACP dinner, but he never came to the hood,” the pastor said. “So thank you.”
DETROIT BUSINESS OWNER: When you were in office, President Trump, the African American community, the Latino community, the Arabic community—we all SOARED.

“My honor,” Trump said.
“I can never thank President Trump enough for what he’s done for me and my family by giving me freedom,” former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said. “But I believe this election and the issues involved are personal to every family and every person in America.”
“Historic rates of Black voters now support President Trump, and the reason is simple: Black voters know that President Trump is the only presidential candidate who can deliver results on day one because he already has,” the Trump campaign stated.
In contrast to Trump’s engagement with black voters and business owners praising his pre-pandemic economy, Biden was set to attend a $28 million Hollywood fundraiser with celebrities, which the Trump campaign criticized as out of touch.
Polls show growing black dissatisfaction with Biden as Trump works to court minority voters ahead of a potential 2024 bid.
“When you were in office, President Trump, the African American community, the Latino community, the Arabic community, we all soared,” one black business owner said. “The money was pumping when you were in office. As a restaurant operator, I’m telling you that the money was pumping, and the money is not pumping now.”
“President Trump will be campaigning and meeting everyday Americans in Detroit, Mich., an area decimated by Joe Biden’s failed policies,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said. “Meanwhile … Biden will be at a glitzy fundraiser in Hollywood with his elitist, out-of-touch celebrity benefactors that own him.”
