A recent report highlighted comments made by Kamala Harris in 2019, where she indicated a willingness to use databases of gun owners to send police to confiscate firearms from individuals deemed dangerous.
As California’s attorney general, she stated that her office had previously authorized law enforcement to visit the homes of prohibited gun owners to enforce gun laws.
“We sent law enforcement out to take those guns because we have to deal with this on all levels,” she said at the time.
The Harris campaign has not commented on her current views regarding government seizure of firearms.
Recently, Harris announced the establishment of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center to support state red flag laws, which allow for temporary removal of firearms from individuals considered a risk to themselves or others.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized Harris’s stance, suggesting she aims to create lists of gun owners for confiscation purposes.
“She wants to put you on a list. She wants to send law enforcement to your door. She wants to take your guns. Don’t believe the media spin – Kamala Harris is no moderate,” Sanders wrote.
