President-elect Donald Trump has chosen South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security, focusing heavily on immigration. Noem will manage a $62 billion budget and 260,000 employees. “Kristi has been very strong on Border Security. She was the first Governor to send National Guard Soldiers to help Texas fight the Biden Border Crisis, and they were sent a total of eight times,” Trump stated.
“She will work closely with ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan to secure the Border, and will guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries,” Trump added.
Noem’s appointment aligns with Trump’s strategy of placing immigration advocates in key roles. Her leadership is expected to be crucial in implementing pro-American immigration reforms.
“I look forward to working with Border Czar Tom Homan to make America SAFE again,” Noem said.
“With Donald Trump, we will secure the Border, and restore safety to American communities so that families will again have the opportunity to pursue The American Dream,” she added.
The DHS includes the U.S. Secret Service, Customs and Border Protection, and other agencies. Noem’s role will also require diplomacy across regions like the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
Democratic Senators won’t be able to block her confirmation but may challenge her politically.
Trump “knows he only has four years, and he wants to hit the ground running,” Noem said. “And he said anybody that I want around me needs to be thinking big, too.”
