Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for the presidency incurred expenses exceeding $1 billion within a three-month period, drawing backlash for its spending on celebrity endorsements, controversial activist organizations, and private jet travel.
Notably, the campaign made two $500,000 payments to Oprah Winfrey’s production company, which sparked accusations of buying endorsements. “Unconscionable,” Rep. Greg Murphy wrote online. “Oprah, a billionaire, sells her soul for a measly $1M.”
A Harpo spokesperson claimed the money was for “production costs” and stated, “Oprah Winfrey was at no point during the campaign paid a personal fee, nor did she receive a fee from Harpo.”
The campaign also allocated nearly $4 million to a marketing agency for influencer connections and over $12 million on digital media consultants.
“The truth is this is just an epic disaster, this is a $1 billion disaster,” DNC National Finance Committee member Lindy Li said.
Additionally, it contributed to left-leaning groups advocating for defunding the police and spent more than $4 million on private jet travel. Despite raising significant funds, the campaign is reportedly $20 million in debt. Trump was quick to make a mockery of the news.
“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 (sic) Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump wrote.
“Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do,” Trump added.
“We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
