After three years at CNN, seasoned journalist and ex-Fox News anchor Chris Wallace has revealed his decision to leave the network, sharing his enthusiasm for exploring new ventures in podcasting. Podcasts are “where the action seems to be,” Wallace said.
“This is the first time in 55 years I‘ve been between jobs,” Wallace said. “I am actually excited and liberated by that.”
In reference to podcasters Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God, Wallace stated, “I don’t flatter myself to think I will have that sort of reach. Not knowing is part of the challenge. I‘m waiting to see what comes over the transom. It might be something that I haven’t thought of at all.”
Traditional media has taken a massive hit in 2024, and CNN has seen a significant drop in viewership following Trump’s election victory. “Trump’s decisive victory demonstrated that the left-wing cable news networks have lost their influence,” OutKick’s Bobby Burack said.
Wallace, who has a reputation for impartiality, believes his skills will translate well to the podcasting format, where he can allow guests to share their views more freely.
His final episode of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” will air this Friday, while “The Chris Wallace Show” will continue until the end of the year. “I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN has been very good to me,” he said.
“Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming,” CNN CEO Mark Thompson said.
“We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future.”
