Washington’s policy allows students to participate in sports based on their gender identity without any medical criteria, prompting criticism from those advocating for female sports.

Similar situations occurred in Oregon as well, with advocates arguing it is unfair to allow biological males to compete against females.
In some cases, female athletes have protested being forced to compete against biological males and faced retaliation from schools.
